mail messages very delayed both incoming and outgoing

I had someone send me a message from a yahoo account to my me.com address and it showed up about 5 days later. This morning, I had someone call me beacuse they got a message from me this morning, but my mail shows I sent it 4 days ago. These are just the ones I'm finding...who knows how many more there are. Any knowledge on what is causing this??
