Q: Apple Mobile Device Failed to Start

I had iTunes open and received the message that a new version was available.  I attempted to update to V 11.1.4 and got through "Starting Services" after full download.  Received notice "Apple Mobile Device failed to start" (error 1053).  I went to Control Panel and attempted to restart AMD but it won't restart.  Tried turning off Avast! Antivirus, but to no avail.  I am this computer's administrator.  Ideas?

Windows XP, Network Connection is fine
