Just bought a used MacBook. Has the OS 10.8.1 but also has a bunch of software I'll never use. How can I best clean it up so I have nothing but the new OS on it?

Just bought a used MacBook with OS 10.8.1 on it. It also has a bunch of software I'll never use and don't want cluttering up my hard drive. How can I best delete all that software and wind up with a clean disk with only the OS on it?

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

As the MacBook is used I presume the previous owner purchased and installed 10.8.1 from his/her Apple ID account. You would not be on record as the purchaser so I doubt you can do an online erase and reinstall.Your best bet is to download 10.9.1 for free and then do a clean install. A how to link is below.
