New iMac making strange sound.

Hello, I just picked up my new 27" iMac from the store last weekend and it has been doing great until today. I noticed a strange noise coming from the back of the computer. It is a loud "tick-tick-tick-tick" sort of noise that almost sounds like something is vibrating within the computer. It is a metallic sort of noise and is not anything like the occasional "click" given off by a Macbook (I have one and know the sound well). This sound is constant and doesn't stop.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

It may be worth taking it to the apple store to get it checked out. Since you just bought the Mac it should be still under warranty and apple should be able to fix any problem they find.

Another piece of advice. If you haven't purchased Apple Care, do so when you bring it in to be checked out. It's well worth the money. It extends your warranty to 3 years and gives you access to tech support. You have to purchase and register Apple Care before your 1 year warranty expires.

I have purchased Apple Care and I may consider going to the Apple Store to have it looked at. It's just a huge pain to haul it down there, but if it isn't good for the computer (the noise) then I'll have to I suppose.

You can also call AppleCare directly and speak to them, however chances are they are just going to tell you to take it in. BTW if you are within 50 miles of an AASP you can request on-site service in the US and UK. I cannot say for other countries.
