I need to verify my password for setting up an email account on a new phone and need to see what I put in on my Macbook. I know there's a toggle somewhere that allows the dots to be converted back to show the actual password but can't find it.

I have already answered this. Open the Applications folder. In that folder there is another one called Utilities. Open that folder. One of the items in that folder is Keychain Access.app.
Open Keychain by double clicking it.
Double click the item you want to see, check the box next to Show Password and authenticate with your login password.

What version of Mac OS X?
In OS 10.9 or 10.9.1 do this:
Applications / Utilities / Keychain Access

Doesn't work. I have 10.6.8 This isn't part of the keychain I don't think. When I was in Apple store they just clicked on something and it showed the password. This is in the set up email account password field.

Works for me in 10.6.8. Just booted up my old Mini to test. Did you find Keychain Access.app?
I've never used keychain. Does Apple automatically activate it and capture passwords? Where would I find it?
