I have an LG G2. How do I import photos to my MacBook Pro retina on Maverick?

I open iPhoto and connect the G 2. The G 2 immediately shows up a a message displays on iPhoto that it is loading. On the G 2 a message displays that it is connecting as a phone . So, all seems to be in order - but, the photos don't ever actually appear in iPhoto.

Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately, Image Capture has the identical reaction to the G2 as IPhoto - it appears to be loading the photos but nothing actually happens. And the G2 does not have a SD.

The phone has a USB selection feature where I can choose a camera connection for Mac. And Iphoto automatically goes to an image transfer page. The problem is that the images don't actually transfer even though it all looks correct.
