Nail Polish Remover on my computer

Where exactly did it spill? only on the keyboard? or on the speakers, mousepad, speaker...?

There is a possibility that there is a damaged area in the keyboard causing it to cause a "block" between the all parts of the system. you might experience the following issues:

• a few or all kays are not working or types the wrong letter
• Mouse pad wont work or 'goes crazy'
• possible charging problems
• Screen viewing
• Macbook port problems (such as USB ports...)

I have added a list of the most likely symptoms and so far, a and d only seems to be linked with a nail polish accident. A keyboard replacement is my first guess but I would check with apple before doin anything like that. Are you sure your system isn't muted? If the start up sound works, it should also work after start up, and the fact that the minimising is super slow is because your setting is set to 'genie' or something like that (its a special effect), it goes super slow when you shift click, so the fact that your shift button is always on is relevant, once the shift button issue is resolved, your minimising will be back to normal speed.

I verified c. and you were correct, it makes so much sense now.

I was also able to figure out b. the link below explains it. My laptop was booting up in "safe boot" disabling any audio input/output after boot up. Seems like apple linked quite a bit of functionality to the shift key.

Now Looks like the only thing left to do is the tedius replacing of the keyboard. I wish I had looked into this earlier. Many many thanks to you Macologist. Greatly appreciate your help. It was very nice of you to spend your time answering my question.

I did the exactly the same thing and I flipped my computer and turned it off but a few hours later I tried to turn it on but it would not start up

its a 50/50 chance based on your first description. There is no reason to panic. I would suggest that you keep your macbook off or in sleep mode to prevent further internal damage. About 1 tablespoon of nal polish remover can cause problems, especially when its on the keyboard. But there is not much to worry about, it can be fixed. 🙂

I spilled nail polish remover on my laptop's keyboard. It has been a year since the incident. I do not have money to spare so I have not had it looked at. Below are the symptoms, could you possibly tell me which components of my Macbook Pro I would need to replace in order for it to work properly.

how much was spilt? estimate. because if a lot was spilt, then there could be quite a major problem
