Q: Does anyone know how to manage Themes in keynote 6.1?

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to manage Themes in keynote 6.1? I've created a bunch of test themes and I would like to rename some and delete others, but I can't find a way to do anything other than Save New Theme's. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

Thanks

    File > Change Theme

In the theme chooser, right click the theme name, then choose Rename or Delete

To rename, type a new name, then press Return

Custom themes always appear in the My Themes category in the theme chooser, in the order in which they were added, they can’t be rearranged

Hi, I realize this is an old thread but I'm having this problem with Keynote 6.6.2, and nothing happens when I right-click the name of a theme. I just saved a whole bunch of custom themes, none of which actually saved what I wanted to save. So I am trying to delete them but can't figure out how to access the list of custom themes to edit them, except in the context of opening a new document or changing the theme on an existing document.

    Thanks.

Answering my own question: I got this to work but I don't understand it.

When I go to my custom themes by clicking "Change Theme" in the inspector, I can't edit the names or delete or anything.

When I go to my custom themes by first editing a master slide and then (before exiting that edit mode) selecting File --> Save Theme, then I see the same list of themes but now when I right-click I am able to delete or rename the theme.

This also solved my problem of not being able to save a new master slide as part of a custom theme. While editing the master slide, save the theme. Then it really does save it.

When I go to my custom themes by clicking "Change Theme" in the inspector, I can't edit the names or delete or anything.

That is the correct operation of Keynote, presumably to prevent users deleting themes by mistake.

The preferred method of deleting unwanted themes is:  File > Save Theme > Add to theme chooser > right click and select Delete

This also solved my problem of not being able to save a new master slide as part of a custom theme.

    Creating new Master Slides and Themes confuses most people;

to produce a new master slide:

go to View > Edit Master Slides

right click on one of the master slides in the Navigator panel and select New Master Slide or duplicate one of the existing Master Slides

make changes to the new Master slide and rename it by double clicking  the slide label

to have the new master slide available to all new presentations it has to be saved as a new theme;     (File > Save Theme)
