Scanner EPSON WorkForce DS-30 not configured properly

I have an EPSON WF DS-30 portable scanner which I have trouble with.

I'm using Paperless by Mariner to archive my documents, but it crashes everytime I select Scan multiple pages.

This is due, according to the developers, to the TWAIN drivers used. I should use Image Capture instead.

But Image Capture does not recognize the scanner.

It had recognized it before, however. Now the "ON" green light of the scanner doesn't energize.

I've gone to System Configuration. The scanner is recognized but not configured.

Under Electrical current required (mA), I end up with a "Unknown (device not configured)" error message.

The scanner hadn't worked until I installed the drivers for it. Then it worked with TWAIN. After some Paperless crashes, it's stopped working again.

I've tried reinstalling the driver with no effort.

If it helps, Position ID under System Configuration is 0x26200000 / 3 .

Changing the USB port the scanner is plugged to doesn't solve anything.

Can you help me? The scanner is not listed as supported by Image Capture under Mavericks but for some time it had worked. So I'm sure I could get it to work again.

Thanks in advance,

I've reinstalled the drivers and the drivers for Image Capture.

Now the green light energizes, but Image Capture reports a generic "An error occurred while scanning". The scan doesn't begin. I don't know why; these official EPSON drivers are for OS X Mavericks.

EPSON Scan works flawlessly, however. It's better than Image Capture because it has the Auto feature for dimensions, while Image Capture only has predefined dimensions such as A4 or Letter. So with IC I'm stuck while scanning a document which is smaller than A4, A5, Letter or something else. I'm forced to use A4 and put lots of dark areas in the scanned document.

Plus, IC grayes out left and right borders on the page, and I don't know why. I think it was a scanner issue, but EPSON Scan doesn't have this.

However I'd like to use EPSON Scan (TWAIN) with Paperless because of the Auto feature. But it crashes everytime I add a page (so I cannot scan more than 1 page for a single document).

Have you got any suggestions?

Hi Tyrexionibus,

I seem to be having a simaliar problem have you solved this yet?

In Image capture the scanner is seen and I can set everything to start scanning. The page even goes in to the scanner and it starts when I press scan. At the end of the page the scanner then gives me the error.

I have tried everything, Epson tells me it is Image capture and apple will need to solve this. Apple tells me the scanner could be faulty and so I got a new one this morning and same issue they then tell me it is the scanner.

Help!

Generally speaking what you have seen is something similar to a kernel panic. While it could be the scanner, it could be the installation of other scanner drivers that are not normally installed. Any scanner which is not officially supported on:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669

Is basically at the whim of third party for correct updated drivers. This is apparently the case for the Workforce DS-30. If you can find a comparable scanner

in the above listing, then applying the correct third party Apple supplied update is necessary.

HP, Ricoh, Canon, Epson, Brother, Lexmark, Samsung,Fuji/Xerox,

Kernel panics can be due to RAM issues, wrong driver, wrong firmware, or bad directory issues. If your data is backed up, see this tip:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6412

If it isn't the directory, then you can start researching the other possibilities.
