Q: how do I disable my phone so that people can text message me on a new non-iphone

I have followed the steps recommended by you you guys in the troubleshooting, but I am still not able to received texts from certain people that are using iphones

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

    You need to contact Apple and have them disassociate your cellular # with iMessage.

     

    Once that's done, any people that have iPhones would need to delete their existing conversations with you and start new ones so it doesn't try to iMessage you again.

    If you call & ask to talk to "Account Security" or "Customer Relations", you shouldn't be charged for the call.

    Okay....had success following wjosten's advice.

     

    Call Apple: 1-800-275-2273

    Press the options to speak with someone as if you are going to paythe $19.95

    When you get a rep on the phone tell them you want to disassociate your phone number from iMessage

    They will do a series of things on their side including sending you texts with codes to your phone

    They say it will take 24hrs to work

    Get a case number so you can call back if it doesn't work.
