I just bought my iMac and I don't know where to find my folders in my email...... HELP ?

Before you bought the iMac, what hardware and software did you use for reading email and keeping pictures?
Where did you keep these pictures - in email folders or in file folders?
What kind of email service do you use - something supplied by your ISP, a service like Gmail or Yahoo, or something else?
I am using Yahoo and to be honest I didnt really pay attention to what hardware/software it is, its my first time with an apple computer and so I dont know how to use it
