Syncing Apple Lossless library to iPod

I have spent some time ripping my cd collection Apple Lossless to my itunes library. It is about 150gb in size. How come when I sync it to my ipod it onlley takes up about 63gb. I thought is should be 150gb? I want the best sound quality possible. Be much obliged for advice?

If your iPod does not have enough space for all 150GB of music then iTunes will only copy as much as will fit, other than that, it is possible to configure iTunes to automatically convert music to AAC format when copying to an iPod or iPhone which takes less space.

The music would still be in Apple Lossless in iTunes but the copy on the iPod would be in AAC.

  1. This option can be configured or turned off in iTunes by connecting the iPod,
  2. Clicking on the iPod in iTunes
  3. In the Summary tab scrolling down to find the following option
