Q: MDP to HDMI cable connecting but not working.

I just purchased a MDP to HDMI Belkin cable from the Apple Store. When I hooked it up to my 17' MBP and connected it to my 32" vizio HDTV, the tv screen is simply the generic pink and purple sky desktop background (which is not my current background). There is no other response from the computer, just the plain sky background. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure mirroring is checked

After messing with it for a while I figured that out, thank you so much! Is there anyway to transfer the audio to the television as well?

The audio will transfer through the HDMI cable if all your hardware meets these requirements:
Learn about the Mini DisplayPort in the latest Mac models that enables audio and video output for DisplayPort and HDMI.

Otherwise you have to run a separate audio cable from the Mac audio output to the TV.

When mirroring was not checked, it was working normally already, as a extended desktop. You just hadn't dragged anything over to the TV yet. If you like it mirrored, that's fine. But if you didn't want to show the same picture on both screens, uncheck mirroring and drag windows over to the TV.
