Does the printer support AirPrint. This Apple support page lists all AirPrint compatible printers.
no..it does not..I looked on the link and the Officejet 4500 wireless is not on it
You should be able to use HP's e-Print Mobile App.

Setup Wireless Direct Printer (this printer generate it's own Wi-Fi)
1. Turn on HP wireless direct from the printer’s control panel.
2. Settings>Wi-Fi>Look for printer>Connect to the HP wireless direct network.
