Why won't Mavericks download past a certain point?

HELP!

I have been trying to download OS X Maverick for over a week now. The download never moves past 2.21 GBs (of the total 5.29 GB). I have restarted, cleared computer space and even rebooted according to the link below. Everything goes smoothly until 2.21 GB, always. After about 15 minutes being stuck, I recieve a message that says "OS X Mavericks could not download" and then red writing saying "An error has occured" appears in the place of the progress bar. PLEASE HELP ME. Please.

I'm not sure if this changes anything, but under "About This Mac" it just says "OS X Version 10.8.5" and it doesn't mention Mountain Lion.

I'm also now looking under "About This Mac" to check the memory/storage requirements Apple outlines here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Under the "Memory" tab, it says I have two 2 GB slots (4GBs installed total), both of which are full. Could this be it? If so, how do I empty a memory slot. I have a hardrive if it can be put on there.
