OS X Mavericks - iTunes no longer working correctly

I just updated my MacBook Pro to 10.9.1 this afternoon, and now iTunes won't sync my iPod classic. It's just a standard 80gig iPod classic, I've used mutiple different USBs, I've rebooted multiple times, and have even turned off the auto-sync. iTunes works fine without the iPod plugged in, but the moment it's plugged in it starts to BeachBall of Doom and just says it's "verifying" - it's been doing this for HOURS.


Any advice? I don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall since that doesn't seem to be super effective according to some other Q/As
