Hello, w need more info. 🙂
If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product...
As far as I am aware there is no such thing as an iMac 20.
Perhaps you have an iMac 20 inch and if so you are probably on the wrong forum. I will include my standard message about forums at the end of this post.
With older OSs you can insert the install DVD, erase the disk (destroys all your data) and install the OS.
Many newer OSs have a recovery partition and you can read about this on the correct forum.
Whilst it may not be your fault I am afraid it appears that your post is on a forum which is not the best for your OS. It will save the time of the unpaid volunteers here, and may resolve your issue faster, if you could examine the list below and see if there is a more appropriate forum to which you could direct your question.
OS X 10.9 Mavericks
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
OS X 10.7 Lion
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
OS X 10.5 Leopard
OS X 10.4 Tiger
OS X 10.3 and earlier
OS 9, OS 8 & System 7
OS X Technologies
OS X Server

There was a G4 iMac 20", 2 G5 20", & 6 Intel based 20" iMacs.
I do not recommend using either Chipmunk or Appleserial number website. Neither is secure.
Apple offers also this link to plug your serial number in:

Agreed, 20" or 20 inch but not simply 20

Paranoya
Knowing that identity theft can be only a few keystrokes away, it is prudent to avoid steps that could allow it. I wouldn't call it paranoia when such things are a reality.
I still think it is paranoia unless you can explain how a DVD serial number can result in identity theft.
The DVD serial number isn't what we were talking about here.
The computer serial number is one way to access your account, and if you are under AppleCare, someone could in theory start to get AppleCare under your account. Now it doesn't take much thinking how once they have an in, how they might establish a way to connect not only to your computer's support account, but also other personal items. Granted I'm sure there are safeguards, but that serial number has always been removed when requested on the forum. Suffice it to say, I don't feel safe with it on the forum.
I find that helpers can be of most use looking beyond the literal when trying to help here... when someone needs help... is it the student or the teacher that isn't communicating when there's confusion? 🙂
