iPad mini lost all contacts please help!!

So I woke up today and opened up my iPad mini and opened up to my messages and once I noticed on all of my conversations there were just phone numbers and no names, I went to my contacts app and all of my contacts seemed to have been lost, How can I get them back? I back up my phone and my iPad with iCloud and I checked and I have iCloud backing up the contacts. I'm afraid to connect my phone to the wifi because I m afraid it will get wiped out too? Will it? I haven't updated my iPad at all recently or anything that could cause this to happen. I'm very upset. Help!
