Recovering text messages after restore

Hi. I had to do a factory restore rather than from backup. Apparently, I had a problem within my backup, so the same problems migrated from my old phone to my new phone (5s). Apple Genius told me all data would be linked to my Apple ID and not to worry. Got my emails and contacts, but no text messages. Can anyone help me get then back on my phone?? Thanks!
