Cannot Import form Sony DCR-TRV740 with iMovie08 or newer

I have researched this and the best I can find is that iMovie 06 was the last version that fully supported the import of video over firewire. Can this be for real?

I can control the camera but only get a blue screen and a counter that advances to 2. I just purchased a HD/DV tape based camera to import all of my old videos and now discover that I can no longer do this on the current version of the Mac software. Seems like this is something that needs to be fixed as more and more people are wanting to do this. And, given that this has been discussed for a several years now without a fix, I can only assume that I would be better with a PC based solution.

If anyone can direct me to where I am wrong, I would greatly appreciate it and would gladly update this post for the benefit of others. The last time I went to the Genius Bar with a video question, I knew far more than anyone there.

Is there a solution other than installing iMovie 06?

Is there anything I should be aware of if I install iMovie 06 ... like will it screw up the current install of iMovie 11?
