How to work with 10 devices vs. 5 authorized computers

I have read several comments that say my iPad and iPhone "are not" computers as far as registration goes. However my account has them listed as registered and I'm maxed out at 5 regestered devices. How do I use my iPhone with iTunes if it is not registered as a computer? How do I tell i?Tunes that my iPhone is a device and not register it? What's the idea behind allowing up to 10 devices with 5 of them being linited to comuters but I can't use the iPad unless it is registered?

I'm really confused and would appriciate it if someone would walk me through the difference between having 10 devices that can work with iTunes but onlu having to register computers.

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4, new in box not yet setup
