iCloud, Maverick. I wanted to close a VIP mailbox. I moved all the emails from the VIP mailbox to the only Inbox that came up in the drop down menu. Now there are neither in my Inbox or in the VIP mailbox. How can I find them?

Apple Support helped me to find either some or all of the missing emails using Time Machine in a way I didn't understand before. But they were also able to recreate the problem I had. It seems that if you try to move emails in the iCloud portion of Mail from a VIP box back to your general Inbox, it will allow you to do all the commands with no error messages or warnings, but your emails will not appear in either place or anywhere else (except a backup if you have one). Apple Support said they would contact Engineering about that. Thanks, Apple Support.
