Q: Is there a solution in Apple framework that offers NAS RAID DLNA?
Hello forum,
I think the requirement of NAS with RAID and additionally DLNA is slowly belcoming quite common these days.
Apple seems to have taken a step in the right direction with Time Capsule but without RAID it only reaches halfway though.
In addition, there is no support for DLNA certified TV either - (Time Capsule needs DLNA certification)
I have spent only limited time within Apple software and OS so whereas my understanding is limited but I appreciate that most of the times Apple products work reliably and deliver.
This is the main motivation behind this question - I am exploring the opportunity to stay within Apple framework for NAS etc. against Synology and the likes.
Please share your thoughts on whether below possible solution to RAID issue will work or not:
a) Buy a 2TB Time Capsule.
b) Buy Western Digital 4TB Red and External HDD enclosure from eBay or something.
c) Connect it to 2TB Time Capsule via the USB port available.
d) Configure Time Machine to take a Backup on Time Capsule.
e) Question 1 - Can Time Machine have 2 separate schedules - i.e; create backups at 2 separate locations?
This way it could maintain 2 bkps - 1 on Time Machine and the other on 4TB Red.
f) Question 2 - No idea about how to get the streaming / DLNA side of things to work - Can Apple TV read photos out of iPhoto database/ movies etc.. sitting on Time Capsule / 4TB Red?
thanks
Gaurav

Question 1: Yes. Add the 2nd drive in System Preferences/Time Machine and it will alternate backups between the 2 drives.
