Mar 23, 2014 6:12 PM in response to a brodyby a brody,Those solutions are after all draconian. If you have something that will work better, please post to http://www.apple.com/feedback/
You are only speaking to end users here.

Mar 23, 2014 6:24 PM in response to a brodyby brofrono,If you read my post above written in red, you will see how I have already proposed a simple yet effective solution that doesn't involve draconian suggestions of banning people from stores. There is a way simpler solution that doesn't involve probing metaphysical questions of one's basic humanity. It's called a two sentence pop up warning message that could appear before the initiation of the download, and not one burried within the bowels of a disclaimer. ;-)

Mar 24, 2014 4:36 AM in response to brofronoby a brody,The problem is, impatient people will quickly dismiss it without reading it, or comprehending it.
And then they come in the forum, and ask why weren't they warned?
I'm serious, this happens all the time. After all, remember MS-DOS asked "Are you sure?"
And the problem is some people may download something off a website, and not all web browsers behave the same way.

Apr 22, 2014 9:16 PM in response to a brodyby Marc.Speth,So does this discussion about "Impatient People" and "Reading the License Agreement" also apply to a Bookkeeping business that just purchased a new Apple computer that has Mavericks factory installed and for some silly reason they expected that not only would their HP All-In-One printer still be able to scan documents that their clients require, or that Mavericks would be able to recognize and correctly use a HP flatbed scanner to acquire those mission critical documents.
Tell me please, where in the agreement they were told "Oh, by the way, you will have to scrap a $700 all-in-one that you just purchased two years ago, and your $200 flatbed scanner is also going to be a glorified paperweight just because we (Apple and HP) can't figure how to play nice and make sure stuff works .... so your antiquated Snow Leopard iMac has to hibernate over in the corner just so you can have SOMETHING that can still communicate with a mission critical part of your business infrastructure."
Let's see, I guess "Impatient People" must be the ones that are losing income and wasting time using ancient equipment (Yeah like 2 years old .... sure) or the ones that didn't bother to read the Mavericks agreement before they were silly enough to invest $2000 on a new computer that is functionally crippled?
As far as I'm concerned BOTH Apple and HP need to be held accountable for this screw up! It's Apple's fault for not ensuring backward compatibility before they pulled the rug out from under HP scanners, AND it's HP's fault for being recalcitrant and just plain TOO DAMNED SLOW to get their drivers updated (or is it just that they don't give a flying-rat's-@ss about it?).
Either way, it's the user that's paying for it. And, from what I've seen on the various forums I've visited, that is not a small number of people and businesses. I wonder if Apple and HP truly appreciate how big a hole they have shot in the own collective feet?

Apr 22, 2014 10:20 PM in response to Marc.Spethby brofrono,I totally agree with you. However, unless it effects HP and Apple enough in the pocket, they will justify that the cost savings of not doing the proper testing and not making sure all drivers are rolled out for capadibility is superior to making their customer's upset and losing business. Suggestion: try going back to Leopard; I did so via a time machine back up and now my hardware works. In fact, Final Draft and Pro Tools and lot's of other older applications require payment to upgrade to the version that is compatible with Maverick. What's even more annoying is unless you disable it you might be getting pop ups encouraging you to upgrade (in a tone that makes you feel as if you haven't already, than you are at risk of being outmoded).

Apr 23, 2014 12:56 AM in response to brofronoby zanarail,Hi
New to this thread/forum.
So, like others I blithely upgraded to mavericks and am now feeling the pain.
Neither my HP CM1312nfi MFP nor my Epson CX5900 inkjet will scan to my iMac and neither Epson or HP seem to have supporting drivers. I therefore need at LEAST a new scanner or possibly a new color laser MFP. No particular loyalty to brand but budget $500 to $600. Have been reasonably happy with Brother, Epson and HP (till now).
My question (like the originator of this thread) is what MFPs/scanners actually DO work with Mavericks???

Jul 13, 2014 2:03 PM in response to zanarailby rhetarae,I have your same problem. What printer scanner did you end up buying. It is like pulling teeth. I don't know what other Apple users on Mavericks are doing , just dumping their printer and ink investment? I bought ink for pro color printer and my Cannon MP560 no driver support now. I can see buying an all in one or a laser printer. Just want it to work on my OS Mavericks. Apple Care wants to partition my hd for old OS and use that for printing. Ever heard of this???

Aug 28, 2014 12:35 PM in response to a brodyby jawswon,I Bought a new MacBook Pro in February that came with Mavericks. I bought it to replace my old MacBook, because I couldn't get it to work with my wireless printer, an HP 310C that had previously worked quite well until I upgraded the software. Fast forward to the new MacBook. I followed the proper procedures after bringing it home and successfully connected to my printer. Was able to use it without a problem until apple issued an upgrade to 10.9.4. Guess what? My printer doesn't work again. I rebooted the printer, the router, the computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled he printer several times. Spent over an hour on the phone with Apple support and they insist there is something wrong with my printer or network. If that is the case, why does my husband's PC print to it, along with my iPad mini? HP won't offer any help because the printer is out of warranty and their message boards are full of stories from people who's HP printers stopped printing from their MacBooks. its a really frustrating situation and I don't know a good answer. I'm going to try another brand of printer and hope the problem is resolved, but I'm not holding my breathe.

Aug 29, 2014 12:50 PM in response to EmBrockmanby jawswon,I found a solution from Apple that is working--for now. Go into system preferences and go to printers and scanners. Click the - button to delete your printer. While holding down the option key, click on the + sign, and when you see your printer, click on it and say yes to add. This allows the latest software update to load (I tried looking for updates through the app store, where they are supposed to be for the new operating system, while on the phone with Apple support and didn't find one). It took about fifteen minutes to upload the new software and my printer is working again. I must say, I'm not happy with the guy I spoke to at Apple. He insisted it had nothing to do with my computer and must be a network or printer problem. Then I started reading the message boards and learned how many people have this problem when their software updates. Mine went out when it updated from OSX 10.9.4 to 10.9.6, not when I was doing a major update in the operating system. Others have suggested not upgrading operating systems because of this problem (which is what happened with my old macbook, which was the reason I bought the new one). If simple fixes to correct bugs in the software knock your printer out, I think they should be better able to advise you. My husband's PC and my iPad were still able to print to this same network printer, so I knew the problem wasn't with the printer itself.

Aug 29, 2014 12:53 PM in response to EmBrockmanby jawswon,I was wrong. My new macbook upgraded to 10.9.4, not 10.9.6 as I stated.

FWIW I contacted Epson and received the following reply:

Thank you for contacting Epson Support.
We regret to inform but the Epson Scan Application for an Epson TX800FW printer is no longer supported in Mavericks Operating system. To scan using this machine, you can use the built in app to the computer called Image capture. Please find the attached instruction.
If you require further assistance regarding this issue please click on the link at the top of this page to access your question from our support site.

I have a new iMac running Mavericks. I installed the latest Epson driver update, but cannot use the scanner function in the TX800FW. I don't see Epson Scan anywhere under Applications, or anywhere that allows me to scan documents.
Printing documents is fine, but I noticed that, unlike on another computer I run, there is no 'Scan' button when I click on System Preferences > Printers and Scanners for the TX800FW. I need the scanning feature, so what do I need to do in order to regain this functionality?
Thanks
Image capture doesn't work from my new iMac, 2012 MBPro and 2010 MBAir (all Mavericks 10.9.4). On the iMac not even the 'Scan' option button appears. The printer works fine. I had tried the Image Capture utility prior to Epson's response. Oh well, will just junk the unit and buy another scanner/printer. Can't afford to wait, nor have the patience (nor time or inclination) to stuff around. And I know, I know, I'm giving up - unless someone can provide a definitive answer on how to get the scan function going! Hey, they're not that expensive anyway...

Aug 31, 2014 3:43 AM in response to GeoBrettby Csound1,Redo the installation, Epson scanners work just fine with Image Capture so remove it (the scanner) and reinstall, read Epsons directions.
As do Brother, Canon, HP, Xerox and so on.

Aug 31, 2014 11:01 PM in response to Csound1by GeoBrett,Thanks CSound1.
I had re-installed the Epson drivers several times on the new iMac, including downloading the Epson software in case of corruption (although there was no problem installing the earlier versions). There is still no scan option in the window System Preferences > Printers and Scanners, but you made me think about SIMPLY going to Applications and searching for the Image Capture app. Sure enough there it is and on opening it I can see the TX800FW. A test scan worked just fine.
For everyone else that has an Epson scan issue (through Mavericks) and has not yet solved it, try Applications > Image Capture and open it as a stand alone app. Once the IC window opens, locate your device either under 'Devices' or under 'Shared' in the left hand panel (my device is shared wirelessly, so it was there under 'Shared'). The scanning function now works for me.
CSound1: while your recommendation wasn't applicable from the reinstallation point of view, you did make me think and now have the scan function back. Many thanks for the prompt. Nothing quite like missing the 'bleeding' obvious... Cheers!
