Q: HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THIS WITH MAVERICKS

I can't help but notice since I loaded Mavericks, that my Mac is running way too much. It runs and rattles away like I'm calculating the postion of each star in the galaxie. I have never heard it work so hard, and It's not even doing anything. It's like a car sitting still and reving the engine. It rattles on for up to 10 minutes at a time before it stops.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has been noticing this. Taking into account all the other downgrades that came with Mavericks, I'm wondering if we might have to upgrade back to Mountain Lion.

I don't want to sound negative, but I am looking for input from others to see if mine is the only Mack that took the hit.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Update keeps installing old softwar

If you just installed this sometime today, it maybe the Spotlight search app indexing your Mac's hard drive.

It will take a few hours for Spotlight to do this.

Open Activity Monitor, sort by %CPU to see what's causing the problem.

Day 7 and it's still hammering away, driving me crazy. Sluggish as HeII too.

I have Activity Monitor open, but I don't know what to look for. It might as well be Chinese.

tell me what to look at .... It's on Disk right now.

What did they do to the image loader? Now it doesn't work.

You might want to run an EtreCheck on your system. It was written and currently maintained by Etresoft, a member of our community. Copy the report to clipboard, and then paste back in a follow-up post. It will tell us more about what is installed, and what may be the causal agent in the machine behavior.

Look at the top, Click CPU, then, click %CPU

If something is taking a lot of memory, it'll be listed at top:

(you may have to click twice to get the high %cpu to list at the top Screen Shot 2014-02-07 at 8.21.10 AM.png):

    OK Guys, here's the report

It just settled down again now and I used EtreCheck to get this report. It is supposed to remove any personal data so it should be safe to post here. Let me kno if it isn't because I don't know what's considered sensitive in this.

You need to completely uninstall the crapware CleanMyMac2.

    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2

    Completely uninstall Trusteer Rapport

    http://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

Also, You need to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied. You may need to, ACTUALLY, go to the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.

Update ALL of your Web browser Internet plugins, also.

Also, if you have any connected third party devices, like keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions.

Cocktail is another problem, and you also have the Conduit spyware installed.

Whenever you encounter a dialog like this:

    Conduit.png

... de-select the checkbox. Otherwise, your presumably willful acceptance of malware shall be granted upon clicking Continue.

I don't have CleanMyMac . I keep getting these dam pop ups for it, but I can't find it anywhere to remove it. I did a spotlight search and nothing. Also went to my apps and nothing.

Also, Where do I find Coctail ? It's not in my apps either. And nothing in the spotlight search.

I think I may have found another problem too, I had file vailt turned on and it was logging away decrypting stuff 90 miles per hour. That seems like a "Tits on the boar" feature if it runs your Mac to death like that. I shut that off and it's saying it will take 12 hours to unencrypt everything, but my Mac stopped hammering away right after I turned that off.

Where do I find all this 3rd party garbage the hackers install on my Mac?

Nevertheless, the report you posted indicates otherwise. Cocktails require an Administrator login name and password to install. If you did not install them, someone else with Administrator privileges did.

That seems like a "Tits on the boar" feature if it runs your Mac to death like that.

That's an apt description for both Cocktail and CleanMyMac. FileVault does not cause the behaviour you describe, unless the Mac has been corrupted with junk software.

Given that malicious software has somehow found its way onto your Mac without your apparent permission, I suggest you erase that disk completely and reconfigure it. Using CleanMyMac will corrupt a system, and following its developer's instructions to get rid of it is ineffective. Never install such junk on a Mac.

Consider changing your password and keeping your Mac away from unauthorized others to avoid this unfortunate event from occurring again.
