Pairing an old remote control with a new mac

Hi. My name is Roberto. Got a new macbook pro and tried to pair it with a three year old remote control pressing the menu and fast fwd button for 5 secs with little luck! Any advise?

There are steps to pair an apple remote with your computer here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1619

I've been having the same difficulty as you trying to pair my new macbook air with an old remote control.

I try following the steps from the link above but when following the steps, I run into the problem where I can't find the "infrared receiver" in my Security & Privacy. It turns out that my new macbook air does not have an infrared receiver to pair with the infrared output of the remote. Therefore, my old apple remote just won't pair with my new macbook and I'm assuming this might be the same for your new macbook pro. Sorry for the bad news.
