Opening .rar files

I have a "zipped"/ not extracted .rar file. The contents are just some clips audio and video that a friend sent me. When I go to open it I get the message "An error has occurred while while expanding the file '*.rar' (Format error). The error number is 17540. The file folder shows up though, only empty. Help?

pooritry...

Is there a suffix on the end of the plugin file? If it is missing, Mac OS may not know what to do with it. (It is possible some utilities strip the suffix and you will have to add it in yourself.)

Perhaps the plugin needs installed? I hope whoever created the plugin can instruct you as to where to place it. Otherwise another wheel is a spinning.
