Q: Time Capsule Nightmare .... Please help!!!

Please please can someone help me. I am trying to set up my Time Capsule but I can't figure it out at all

I bought an Airport Time Capsule and I just want to use it as a backup drive for my computer. I have reset it 5 times and started from scratch each time but it doesn’t seem to work for me.

This is what I’ve done:

  1. Brand new and/or Reset
  2. Plugged Ethernet cable into the back of my MacPro and the other end into the LAN of the Airport Time Capsule.
  3. The Airport Utility popped up straight away and I gave my Network a name and password.
  4. I then went into Time Machine Preferences and selected ‘Data Time Capsule’ as my backup disk.
  5. It asked me for a password and I entered it.
  6. Then it says its preparing for backup.

This is the problem:

It spent over 30 hours backing up all my files each time and it says ‘Latest Backup and the time’ but when I go into Time Machine there are no backups there. Each date that has been backed up has a black screen.

I have done this now 5 times and my computer has been on for a full week.

I don’t know what to do or what I am doing wrong. Can anyone help me? I’m sure its something really simple but I just can’t figure it out and at the moment I have nothing backed up which is really freaking me out :(((

If the TM has completed without an error it has worked.. each time you are deleting a working backup.. it is simply that the TM display doesn't work until spotlight has done a full scan of it.. which takes hours.. so you have a backup.. and if you mount the sparsebundle in finder you can see the files.. it is just that you are not being patient enough for TM to complete the indexing. (At least that is what is being reported).

I do not trust TM in Mavericks.. as it is too flakey for now.

    I recommend you buy CCC

Which has nice simple interface and makes easy to understand backups.
