while i was on my ipod it suddenly turned off, or the screen stopped working. i let it charge the rest of the night and in the morning still wouldn't turn on. i tried charging it and shutting it off. nothing works

Press the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time and release when you see the Apple logo.
If not successful try the remianing items of::
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
