My iPhone 5 became dead without any symthom. I try to charge with no success. At Apple's Genius Bar said I have to replace and pay about $260 + tax

My iPhone 5 died one month ago suddenly without any symthom. Never updated iOS software. I have had it for an year with no problem (heat, battery, updates, none).

I tried almost all you posted in this site about iPhone 5 discussion forums but nothing works. After 3 times at Genius Bar with the same answer: No diagnose, just change it for a new one, I looked for a second opinion. I refuse to accept that my iPhone could stop working with any previous sign of malfunction.

I contacted CellAgain people at Prudential Boston Shopping Booth and they diagnose the following:

Battery is dead. They started my iPhone again with a working battery, back it up, and restore to its original software.

iPhone heats up and they said this cause the battery issue. "First you have to solve this and then buy a new battery".

Someone had a similar problem?

Could you solve it?

Thank you!!

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2

If your iPhone 5 is still in the 1 year warranty from the date of purchase, or if you purchased Apple Care+ for it, then this would be covered at no cost to you. If your warranty has expired, then the cost for an out of warranty replacement for an iPhone 5 is $269 USD plus taxes.

Since you say you've had a third party perform some service on your iPhone, they have probably voided any warranty you may have had, so you are probably left with only four main options:

1. Pay Apple the Out of Warranty replacement fee.

2. Buy a new phone.

3. Do nothing.

4. Pay the third party group to fix the problems they diagnosed for you.
