My iPad, IOS 5.1 does not display an Edit button in the mailbox list, so I cannot add or edit mailbox names. The IOS 5.1 manual says it should. What's up with that?

My iPad, IOS 5.1.1 will not allow me to add mailbox names or edit existing mailbox names within the email app. I am connected to a pop/smpt mail server and all the settings available are set properly. The 5.1 manual instructs one to enter the mailbox list and press Edit, but no such choice appears in my system. Also the email settings for advanced account set up lack one of the buttons to select where deleted mail is filed when removed from the iPad inbox. This sounds to me like a bug in either the email application or the instruction manual and on-line instructions. What's up, and is there a work-around or a software update that will take care of this.

iPad, iOS 5.1.1, early iPad, updated once to 5.1.1

POP accounts cannot add mailboxes from within the app (IMAP and Exchange accounts generally can).

At least I understand, but the functionality does not match what the manual says. When functionality does not match the manual it is a BUG.

What if I do not want to use IMAP or Exchange? I do not like being forced to use technology I do not trust.

No, it is not a bug. It is working as designed. And there is noting in the manual that staes you can create folders for a POP account.

You do know that any email sent through a POP account stays on the provider's server (often for years) even if you delete it from your inboxes, right? Completely beyond your control. Refusing to use an IMAP service doesn't protect you from anything.
