Q: Manual upgrade of iPad2 (A1396) is failing with 3194

Hello,

I tried to update my iPad2 from iOS 5.0.1 (9A405) to iOS 7.0.4 manually, I downloaded the restore file for A1396 and ran a manual update, but the installation is failing with 3194 error. Using latest iTunes (11.1.4.62) & iTunes is also allowed in firewall settings (Symantec Endpoint protection). I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad i5 Win 7 64 bit for connecting to my iPad2. Once I could see the error details that was sent to Apple - it had some log message that some hash code is not matching. Did anyone come across similar situation/ error? Any help will be highly appreciated, thanks.

Regards

iPad 2, iOS 7.0.4

Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors - Apple

    Resolve communication issues

Check the hosts file or TCP/IP filtering, which might cause communication issues between iTunes, ports, and servers.

Common errors: 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194, or 3000-3999. These alerts refer to gs.apple.com, say "There was a problem downloading the software", or say the "device isn't eligible for the requested build"

    Configure your security software

Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.

    Hi,

I think my DNS servers are doing the address translation, so does not seem like a hosts file/ lookup issue. Below is the nslookup output; albeit I'm not sure if there is any issue with the translated ip address.

As I mentioned earlier, iTunes is in the "Allowed" list of applications in my local firewall configuration.

Once iTunes sent the error details to Apple, I did not save the file, my bad. But I remember seeing an error text in the file which complained of a hash code mismatch. Does this ring any bell to anyone? BTW, my model is A1396 - IPad 2, wifi, 3G GSM, 16 GB

    C:\Users\IBM_ADMIN>nslookup gs.apple.com

    Server:  dnsdel.mantraonline.com

    Address:  202.56.230.5

    Non-authoritative answer:

    Name:    gs.apple.com.akadns.net

    Address:  17.171.36.30

    Aliases:  gs.apple.com

    Hello,

I could grab the error text - apologies for posting such a large text. Any idea why I'm getting below problem?
