Why can't you turn reverb up after recording?

Hi all,

Firstly, does anyone feel like GarageBand 10.0 is a humungous step back? It's free now, which is great, but I'd sooner pay to have old GarageBand back.

Secondly, and this is just one of the many reasons I hate it, but why can't you turn the reverb up on individual tracks after recording? I turn it up, nothing happens. When I click onto another track and click back, even though it's not wroking on the track anywayl the knob has turned back to zero.

Any ideas, or should I just move to Logic like it seems they're forcing us to.

Thanks,

Rhys

unless you deleted it, it's still in your Applications folder

perhaps a little more informationis needed; i can not duplicate this issue. if i change the reverb setting, i get a changed reverb and it remains as i set it

Did you not save the old GarageBand, when you upgraded, Rhys? The GB 10.0 installer moves GarageBand 6.0.5 to a subfolder of Applications. If you did not uninstall it, it will still be there. I use both versions in turn. They can both be used with Mavericks, and I wll keep GB 6.0.5, until GB 10.0 will be furtehr developed.

That does not look right. Have you tried to toggle the option "Global reverb" in the GarageBa

nd preferences on and off a few times? That enabled the reverb for me for the individual tracks. With "Global reverb" set, the reverb settings for the individual tracks would all be the same.

Yeh, I'm an idiot. I deleted it...

I do still have a copy of it somewhere, but I'm being stubborn for the moment and finishing this project in GB 10.0 if it kills me.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is what everything is looking like at the moment.User uploaded file

I've clicked Global reverb on and off a few times, and can get reverb from those knobs and the master track, but I need to stop the reverb dead at a particular point, so it would help to be able to put an automation in using the standard plug in. I've probably done something to stop it from working as I've been able to turn up the reverb on other projects after recording. Not sure what's gone wrong here.

Cheers

It doesn't do that either. I play through the automation and the knob stays in the same place. If I stop it and select a particular spot in the automation, then click back and forth from another track, the knob changes to the correct position, but still no reverb.

If your Reverb is not working properly, it might be caused by an incompatible plug-in or defective preferences files.

If it is either of these, can I do anything to update the errors in the software without having to re-record the project? Like I say, it seems to work in the other projects of this set, but it has happened before and I've just deleted the track as it was unusable anyway.

If it is working in other current projects, it looks like a problem with your project.

I'd check with a new project with just two tracks to test the reverb. Does Reverb still work for new projects?

Then it is a problem with the current project. Does this project use plug-ins, that your other projects to not use?

It is is indead tied to this one project, without any custom instruments and effects used, you could try either to restore a working copy of the project from your backup, or copy the audio files from the project package to a new project.

Hi Léonie,

Thanks so much for your help. I have since solved my problem. NOT, I might add, the problem with the defective plug in. I changed the old plug (which was the standard one GB gives you to record a line input) in and chose a different one.

For anyone who might have problems with this issue: I thought the new version of GB had done away with the option to add as many effects as you like to a single track, but this is just a check box for 'Audio Units' in Preferences->Audio/Midi.

After checking this box, an 'Audio Units' box appears in the information panel. I chose my own reverb type and it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Cheers
