Q: I can't get the sound to work on Airplay

I have connected my Mac mini and Apple TV to the same WI-fi network, amended the display options and can get Apple TV to mirror what's on my monitor. But as soon as I do that, the sound on the video that I am streaming disappears on both the Mac mini and Apple TV. The setting on Apple TV is set so that the Apple TV is selected under Speakers. I have tried changing to 16 bit but that makes no difference. Can anyone help me?

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X 10.9.1

If you haven't already solved the problem you need to restart your Apple TV and device. To do this on the Apple TV you go into Settings>General> Restart. Let it load and it should have resolved the problem, happens to mine sometimes if you do not turn the Apple TV off when done using it.

    Hope this helped,

    Sarah :)

Hooray! I solved it. I read another discussion which talked about setting the audio output controls that set me thinking. I discovered that the Settings on my Mac mini for Sound Output was set to Apple TV but the volume was set to minimum. When I move that to max, I got sound!
