I cannot get Java to open in Mountain Lion

My computer was recently repaired and Mountain Lion was installed when it was returned to me. I can no longer successfully work with Java. How can I use Java with Mountain Lion. I have only one website that I need it for.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5

Hello SCSilverfox,

Thank you for the question. I recommend installing Java if you haven't yet or updating it if it is already installed using these steps:

Use one of these methods:

For a new installation of Java 7:

  1. Download the latest Java 7 version from www.java.com/download/mac_download.jsp.
  2. Open the downloaded disk image.
  3. Open the installer within and follow the onscreen instructions.

If Java 7 is already installed:

  1. Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences….
  2. Choose View > Java to open the Java Control Panel app.
  3. Click the Update tab.
  4. Click Update Now button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Sheila_m,

Thank you for your answer. I am sorry I have been so slow to answer but I have had multiple computer problems and did not actually get this email on my main computer but dredged it up when going through emails on my laptop.

These directions are awesome. I found things I wasn't able to find yet on this operating system, namely the security tab for JAVA where I can put in a safe site.

Actually, I didn't know you could open the View menu from the Preferences Pane. There is a whole option of exploration I will enjoy.

Thanks again.
