Moving software and files from my old MacBook Pro to a new one

Moving software and files from my old MacBook Pro to a new one

Does the Apple Store migrate all my files and software from my old laptop to a new one? How long does it take? Do I need an appointment?

I am not comfortable doing it myself. Actually, I do not know how to do it.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

If you bought it from apple, they should do it. How long would depend on how much data you have and how busy they are. Best thing is just call them and ask.
