I am currently running snow lion 10.6.8 on my macbook pro (OS it came with) and want to restore. I cannot erase my disk from disk utility and the install disc comes up with a message "snow leopard cannot be installed on this computer." What should I do?

Have you tried to insert the install disk, hold down C kay while rebooting (which means you will boot from the install disk), and then erase and reinstall? You can erase an OS from the disk you are booted into.

Yes thats what I tried first and it said "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer." Which has me baffled.
Even after you went into the installer Utilities and erased the drive?

You canNOT erase an OS from the disk you are booted into - meaning you need to be booted from an external source (an install disk or a bootable clone) in order to erase the internal hard drive.
