Q: Mail will not open or shut down computer....

My Mail is jacked up....it won't open and then when I try to shut down, it keeps saying my Mail "stopped this command" 

Ugh!

Also, my printing is all screwed up...says it doesn't support my printer...which I used before I updated to Maverick X 10.9.1

Help Obi Wan....
