MACBOOK AIR SSD 2012- FAULTY SSD?

Hey guys ,

I have the Macbook air 13 inch 2012 edition . A while ago i saw Apples recall of 2012 models of the macbook air and they apprently resolved the issue

by using a new firmware update which indicates if your SSD is faulty. My question is that when this occured my SSD had already crashed and i was forced

to use a external drive for the time being, so basically when i ran the test for faulty SSD's my air was connected to the External drive , is it possible that my Air crashed because of the faulty drive and couldnt detect it because it my data was already in an external drive ?
