Time Machine not doing backup

Hello,

Last week my TC not doing a backup by saying a message "The time capsule is not available".

I did power-cycle to TC and reboot to iMac. Nothing. I removed TC from the list of available disks for backup and now is not appearing to select it.

I follow the option "Select backup disk" but unfortunately TC is not at the list anymore.

The only option is to set up a TC that is not listed here. I choose my TC but is visible and green light is on. I can't select an option to put it in the list of available disks.

By the way with airport utillity I am making any change I like so it's obvious that is visible and ready.

Any help?

Thanks in advance

Harris

Typical Mavericks.

Manually mount the TC disk.

Firstly factory reset the TC.. change all the names to SMB type .. That means...

short, 2-20 characters

No spaces.

No strange characters eg apostrophe.

So Apple name via the wizard will come out..

Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule

This is hopelessly wrong.

It is over long, it has spaces and it is not pure alphanumeric.

So new name for the TC.

TCgenx

Whatever you like.. as long as it conforms.

Wireless name..

TC24ghz

And TC5ghz

By default the disk share name is Data.. which is fine.

Now in Finder use Go>Connect to Server.

Type in the address

AFP://TCname.local

Obviously using your new compliant name in place of TCname (you also need domain which by default is local)

Now you have some hope of TM working for more than 12hours.

Reset TM and see how it goes.
