How do I place imported music from iTunes to iMovie?

I am running iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. I want to place music from iTunes in specific places on my video and every time I drag a song from the list, it defaults to the beginning of the project. Then I have to drag it to the spot where I want it to be. This gets tedious when I'm working on a lengthy project (3 hours long). Is there a way to make it default to the exact spot I want to place it?
