iPod nano 5th generation not syncing with new iTunes update??

I have an iPod nanon 5th Gen that I no longer use and I'm trying to restore it to factory settings so I can sell it. When I connect it to my computer (Windows 7 32 bit) it does not show that my iPod has synced with it. How do I fix this?? I need to restore it ASAP!!
