moneydance

I cannot get Moneydance to work. It did download several account then the error messages started. The first error message:

There was an error communicating with the server. This could be the result of a network problem, or the server may be offline or not responding. Please try the operation again later.

Error Description: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

New error User uploaded file

Obviously something is blocking Money dance from communicating. How do I fix this?

Unless you have an app installed like Little Snitch, which can block outgoing network traffic, the problem is probably at the server end, as the error message says.

It is possible that your Mac has been configured to selectively block outgoing network traffic to one or more servers, but you'd probably know if that was the case, as you'd have to make the modifications yourself or install additional software, like Little Snitch. If you acquired your Mac from somebody else and it still has that person's software or modifications on it, then maybe that's the case.

You can use Network Utility (it's in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications) to see which ports are open. OS X: About Network Utility

Another possibility is that your ISP blocks access to the site. You could try accessing the site from a different ISP, for example, at your local coffee place with free wifi (and a different ISP).
