How do I reset to factory a MacBook Air mid 2011 that I bought from a friend??

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me..I just bought a MacBook Air mid 2011 model and it's running on the current maverick software.

The thing is, when I click on user accounts it still shows my friends name, there are a couple of other occurrences of this too.

I have already tried reinstalling mavericks but it didn't remove this info, i would really like to factory reset it if possible...

Help would be gratefully appreciated (am new to mac)

First thing is your friend should go unregister the machine from their profile so that you can transfer any warranty and legitimately own the item in your Mac ID profile. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5667379?tstart=0

Then you should be set with the OS having been reinstalled.

Thanks peeps...I seem to have deleted the wrong drive I erased the partition that had all the files on :( when I tried to go back to mac I just got a flashing file with a question mark :(

It has now brought up a scrolling world and is counting down... 0:11 now

Please help?! I think I murdered my mac :(
