I just installed Adobe Reader on my Macbook Air (followed all steps given) and still cannot read my .pdf files. Disappointed!

I just installed Adobe Reader on my Macbook Air (followed all steps given) and .pdf files still cannot be displayed after I double click on them.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

If by that you mean Preview is still opening the files Control Click and HOLD on a .pdf file you'll see Open With (at the bottom) Other Dialogue box. - mouse over to it and before you choose Acrobat click Always Open With in the checkbox.
