I understand how to keep the Option key down to see which drive you which to boot, but for some reason my 2010 iMac will not recognize the DVD. I unplugged everything else but it still recognizes only the Mac, the Windows and a backup, not the DVD. Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my iMac of the same vintage. I found several articles online which suggested that this can happen but didn't ever find a resolution. I ended up creating a bootable USB thumb drive and using that instead.
How do you go about creating a bootable USB thumb drive, please?
