Q: I phone 5s I tunes won't sync existing playlists

I am tearing my hair out.  I have Itunes 11 and an Iphone 5S.  I can add new playlists from my computer to my I phone, but I can't add a song to an existing playlist on my computer, and then get that to sync to my I phone.  Help!
