Can Express work as a wireless access point for wired router?
The box and Apple website both say "AirPort Express can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network". Is that only referring to extending range? I plan to use this with an non-Apple wired router and need it to serve as the wireless access point. Is there a proprietary issue - will it only work with Airport Extreme base station?
Thanks
The wired router has 6 lines coming out of it going to 6 rooms. How does configuring factor into this. If I plug the express into one of the ethernet jacks, I thought the Express then becomes the wireless access point?
Thanks for your response.
You will need to connect a port out of the router and plug it into the AE. Then when you configure your airport Express DESELECT the option to "Distribute IP addresses" in the airport set-up wizard. It will be then be a wireless access point.
