Q: TRASH basket / Delete function not completing delete tasks

Suddenly the TRASH function is not deleting the trash.  Did I make a mistake to change its protocol to "empty securely?"  Any trouble shooting suggestions?  How can I cahnge back to the default "empty" function? 

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Relaunch the Finder, then from the Finder menu bar, select

Finder ▹ Preferences ▹ Advanced

and uncheck the box marked Empty Trash securely. Hold down the option key and try again to empty the Trash.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions

     

    You may have trashed an active file ... log out and then back in. Try Empty trash... if that doesn't work try Secure empty trash (that's not a permanent setting).

     

    If there is still something stuck in the trash there are apps and hacks to "force empty" the trash. Jus come back and let us know.
