ipad not showing up in iTunes

iPad 2 won't charge on Mac or with 10w wall charger, have new syncing cable. Device was recognized by iTunes earlier today over Wi-fi and now not recognized. Also, iTunes doesn't recognize the device when plugged in. I've tried different syncing cables, restarting Mac, resetting iPad and different USB ports. This happened awhile back and I had to restore the whole thing on my iMac and then it has worked fine for about five months. Any suggestions?
